US FEC operator Dave and Busters is currently having "phenomenal success" with one of Baytek Games’ latest products, Big Bass Wheel. Initially tested in its Utica, Michigan, location, outside Detroit, the game performed so well that the operator purchased at least one unit for each of its other locations and even two for some. Cory Haynes, vice president of operations at the company, also told InterGame: "Spin-n-Win continues to do very well for us and NASCAR by Global VR is putting out some great numbers. We purchased four motion based deluxe units for each location and Slam-A-Winner Extreme and Haunted Mansion three-player are still performing very well." Haynes also added that as redemption continues toperform well, the company is also seeing customers shift to the value packages it offers such as the Eat and Play combo where customers get the choice of a meal and a $10 or $20 game card for one set price.

Big Bass Wheel, the new large format novelty ticket game from Bay Tek, scored a perfect 10 on the Player's Choice game charts for the upcoming August issue of RePlay.

"It's the best any game can rate," explained RePlay's Ingrid Adlum Milkes of the game, which is rated this coming month for the very first time, in the novelty game category. Bay Tek began shipping the game in early June and says they have hundreds of unit on back order.

Game play is simple and straightforward. Players step up and pull the handle to spin the big wheel. When the wheel stops, players are rewarded with tickets. Pulaski, WI - Bay Tek Games is honored to announce the newest member of their sales and marketing team, friend and respected industry veteran, Rick Rochetti. Rick brings with him over 28 years experience, where his career began on the distribution side at Bally Midwest. A sound understanding of the distribution chain led Rick to video-game manufacturer Taito Corp. He later joined Mr. Satomi and other industry veterans at Sammy U.S.A. After the merger between Sammy Corporation and Sega Amusements, Rick served as Sega's President and is accredited for years of consistent growth under the Sega umbrella.

Joining Bay Tek Games, as Director of Sales and Marketing, Rick will lead all sales and marketing efforts while helping form the direction of Bay Tek's product portfolio. The 31-year-old organization currently offers a mix of ticket redemption games and merchandising games. The company is on the cusp of releasing Big Bass Wheel, which is already producing breaking numbers in the field.

First of all. Do you have the right type of customers to justify redemption? To be able to answer this, it is only fair I give you an idea about the target ticket redemption player.
Although ticket redemption games are played by all ages, it is younger children aged eight to 16 that will make up your true target market. If any portion of your current customers or potential customers could become or are part of your business you are a good candidate for redemption games.
However, you then need to consider whether or not your customers are actually in a position to spend more time and money in your location. You therefore need to evaluate your business and your current and potential customers.
Ask yourself this: are your customers typically in a hurry to leave once they have satisfied their primary reason for coming, or do they seem to look for ways to spend their time as a family?
If the main reason behind their visit is family entertainment then they are more likely to stay and spend more money. Redemption games, when operated correctly, have a fantastic reputation of adding both a real and perceived value to quality family time.
You will be able to see the rewards of having families leave your location feeling they received good value for money and most importantly, their kids had a positive and fun experience – the key to repeat visits.
As well as considering your customers’ needs you must also evaluate whether you can operate ticket redemption equipment effectively. The most common reason for failure is poor management and ineffective operation of the game room. This comes up in two ways: games not working and a poor presentation at the prize counter. Both of these show instantly that the owner of the games wasn’t willing or able to operate them effectively.
Usually it is not that they were not able, but were not trained properly on how to do it. Ticket redemption, like anything in your business, will not work unless you are willing to put in the effort.
So, if you were able to answer “yes” to one or more of the above, then you need to consider adding ticket redemption to your entertainment business. In future columns I will introduce effective ways to operate your ticket redemption equipment.

The sale of long-time novelty redemption manufacturer, Meltec Inc., was made final on Friday, September 5, 2003. A BayTek crew, headed by Operations Manager, Chad Schroeder, arrived in Oregon shortly thereafter, to coordinate shipping efforts of all existing assets. The inventory is being assessed and shipped to BayTek headquarters in Pulaski, Wisconsin, where a receiving crew awaits. The parts will be in transit for a short period of time, however, BayTek hopes to have everything received in with minimal interruption in parts and technical service. As of September 10, 2003, all parts and service calls will be rerouted to BayTek.

Meltec was founded in 1980 by Mel McEwan, along with his sons, John and Mike, in Northern California. In 1993 they relocated the company to Tigard, Oregon. Both John and Mike served as chief executives until the acquisition was finalized. Meltec established their share of the FEC market with the introduction of their renowned air gun games, featured on Big Mouth, Knock Down, and Shootin Hoops. Meltec President, John McEwan, is “satisfied with the deal and knows BayTek will use their capable engineering and creative departments to expand the well-grounded product line” BayTek’s first order of business is to establish sound customer service and technical support for games already in the field. They intend to utilize Meltec’s gun technology in future offspring. BayTek’s engineering department is already working on a new design that will be shown at IAAPA.

BayTek owner, Larry Treankler states, “I have always thought highly of Meltec games, and am working diligently with my sales staff to get these games back in the hands of our valuable distributor network. Providing the industry with proven product backed by our support team is a venture I am very enthusiastic about.” BayTek Inc. has gone through the acquisition process in the past and knows the dedication and leadership it takes to establish a sound service structure for acquired product lines. Limited assets of Coin Concepts were purchased back in 1997, followed by the purchase of Seidel Games, in fall of 1999.

Purchasing Seidel strengthened their product offering with hit titles like: WonderWheel, Smokin Token, Deep Freeze, and Speed Demon. BayTek has expanded their facility to accommodate for the growth, and have hired additional personnel to really key in on their overall diversification objective.
